  • WHILE OTHER ABS 3D filament produces crumbling prints with poor layer adhesion and warps more than the Starship Enterprise,’s pure ABS formula gives a strong end-use plastic with excellent detail, layer adhesion and finish quality. Every. Single. Time.
  • If you need to create a truly long-lasting, durable end use part, ABS filament is a solid workhorse. Our pure ABS is free from contaminants and extruded to industry leading tolerances. This means each layer is perfectly smooth and strongly adhered that the lines are virtually indistinguishable at low layer heights – all without warp or cracking. We guarantee 100% reliability.
  • Need that extra smooth not-so-3d-printed finish? You can easily sand, drill or even acetone smooth ABS to leave it smooth like an injection moulded part. We cover this in more detail in our guides.
  • You’ll need a heated bed though and ABS requires higher printing temperatures. If you don’t need the high strength of ABS, we recommend using our standard PLA for most applications due to its surprisingly good all-round strength and ease of printing. Need a UV resistant version of ABS? Check out our ASA filament.

You may have heard before that ‘PLA is easier to print with than ABS filament’. Which is generally true (for most versions of ABS) – but we’ve specially formulated a higher grade of ABS plastic that’s exceptionally low warp.

This means no failed prints, cracks or rounded bases of your prints.

Perhaps the second most commonly used filament is ABS (or Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene on Sundays) – this is a common plastic used in a lot of casings and consumer products that require a durable material. Your phone case or keyboard is likely made from, or has some components in ABS.

ABS filament is stronger than good PLA (and considerably stronger than cheaper varieties) and has a higher temperature resistance (it won’t go soft in a hot car on a sunny day) but takes a little more care when printing. This is because it has a tendency to warp if your heated bed is not hot enough (as it contracts when cooling), and requires a hotter extruder temperature. However, once your ABS plastic filament settings are tuned in and everything is at the correct temperatures – printing it is no harder than any other material.

This material can also be smoothed with acetone. This means you can make it look more like a non 3D print, but that’s usually at a cost to detail. You can also sand, cut and paint after printing if needed.

Is ABS filament transparent?

Not naturally like PLA and some other materials, but we do a modified ABS selection (clear, trans red, trans blue, trans green, trans yellow) that prints more translucent unless you acetone smooth.

As with all 3D printing filaments it’s extremely important to only print in a well-ventilated area. ABS is no different. The very process of printing can release micro particles into the air during the heating and extruding process so always read the guidelines from your printer’s manufacture.

Great product

Being new to 3D printing, I had experienced a few "birds nests" and and messed up nozzles but the sample of 2.85 ABS which supplied worked like a dream and the quality of the finished product was great. I use a TAZ 6 and have printed some very small detailed parts for models and the ABS sample far exceeded the quality of the filament I already had. Will be coming back for more.

ABS 2.85 filament

Fantastic quality, fantastic service. The filament is well packed and prints perfectly every time. Brilliant

5 star

ABS 2.85mm (fits 3.0mm) 3D Printer Filament

2.85 ABS

very nice filament, no issues almost finished it already with big print run

2.85mm Orange ABS filament

Parts do seem to warp less than other manufacturers filament, 5m lengths come separately packaged, which, while not a problem, made things slightly more 'hands-on', than if it had been a single spool of the required length.
