PLA 2.85mm (fits 3.0mm) 3D Printer Filament
- Other PLA 3D filaments are a good starter material. Although regarded as easy to use, they’re commonly seen as weak, brittle and inconsistent. We felt we could do better, much better. Our PLA uses a special pure grade resin that prints at lower temperatures (from 180°C). Sure, this saves electricity (yawn) but more importantly, it allows for a surprisingly strong and durable print with excellent layer-to-layer adhesion.
- Our all-natural biopolymer is free from contaminants and is also long term biodegradable. So while it may not be suitable for prolonged outdoor use, rest assured that wrong-sized customer prototype won’t stay in landfill for years to come.
- Whether you’re using a printer without a heated bed, getting creative with 3D pens or getting the kids involved in “the future” - our high strength PLA is easy to use, 100% reliable and actually suitable for most end use parts.
- Our PLA comes in our largest range of colours, over 25 pigment rich varieties. The colour you see on this screen is the colour you’ll receive and the final colour of your print. Our colours don’t weaken after the heat of printing.
- It’s not just our industry leading filament that’s got people talking, got an issue with printing or your order? Our world-renowned, friendly, efficient and knowledgeable technical customer service team are on hand to support you.
What makes our PLA (Polylactic Acid) different?
Many PLA filaments may have inconsistencies or contaminants. This is a problem, because it can mean some parts or sections of your filament can have varying extruding temperatures, leading to blockages.
|Consistent Diameter (0.03 mm +/- )||What's often overlooked is the importance of maintaining a consistent diameter of the filament. If it's too wide in places, this again can stop your extruder from extruding. Thin sections can cause under extrusion.|
|Excellent Layer Adhesion||Our PLA filament produces a full strength print with excellent layer adhesion, meaning layer separation is a thing of the past.|
|NO stringing or blobbing||Due to our pure formulations (we have a strict no contaminants rule) your prints will come out with no stringing, or blobbing and excellent detail.|
||The colour you see in the photo is the exact colour you'll receive. Not only that, it won't look washed out after the heat from the extruding process either. Leaving you with rich, vibrant prints.|
|Strength||Our PLA is surprisingly strong, meaning it's ideal for printing actually usable parts and prototypes.

|Temperatures||Print PLA, around 180-210°C depending on your printer.
Heated bed not necessary, but if preferred around 40°C.
|Spool Size||20cm dia, 7cm width, 5.6cm dia spool hole.|

I used to use colorfabb but have switched to rigid ink as it's a little cheaper and i think the layer adhesion is possibly even better. I use 1kg reels which don't fit on my ultimakers but the rigid ink box doubles as a spool holder which is handy, I just stick a bit of metal tube in the centre.
I love this PLA. I've tried lots of different types, at varying prices, and have concluded that this material is by far the best. My last purchase was for 1kg of Black 3mm PLA. I produced several high quality prints and then switched to light yellow. No messing, kept all settings the same and simply produced another print without any changes, nozzle cleaning or anything. It was perfect, then switched back to Black and did exactly the same with identical results. Can't beat it in my view. Well done Rigid.Ink, and keep it up! - Best Regards -
I've rounded up my evaluation on august 16th and I have 5 out 5 appreciation for this filament (1 Kg). The evaluation included printed surface, layering, surface after support removal, experiences with warping (none found) & nozzle clogging (none found). Printed with an 0.4mm nozzle at layer heights of 0.30 / 0.20 / 0.15 and 0.10mm. Temperature: 185 Dgr nozzle, 35 Dgr bed.
Thanks to the Rigid.ink team, for your support in helping me find the right settings. Much appreciated.
In comparison to other PLA I've tried, Velleman and unbranded etc. this one has performed the best for me so far. After only a minor amount of faffing around with settings, temp of 210 C worked best for clog free printing. Yet to try anything major but with a simple and slightly more complex print done, have to say happy with the results so far. Definite lack of stringing and bobbling going on with this filament which is all good. Yet to try anything mega with regards to surface quality but confident this filament will deliver.

Couple of pics of very rough prints. Head mesh was a bit of a mess to start with by Simplify 3D went ahead with it anyways. 150micron level at flat out speed for this test, 100 micron for the panels in the second pic. Dark streaking was ABS residue from the last reel on the printer since this one was the very first try with Rigid Ink filament.
