rigid.ink PETG is a co-polymer that combines Polyethylene Terephthalate (the material that most plastic water bottles are made of) with Glycol. The result is an extremely tough and durable material that’s easy to use. In a way, rigid.ink PETG is the best of both worlds. It combines the strength and rigidity of ABS with the relative ease of use that comes with printing with PLA. Commercially, PETG has literally thousands of uses.

The strength of PETG makes it a natural for food packaging. In addition, its natural chemical non reactivity means that it is invaluable in medical applications. It is also used in signs, orthotic and prosthetic devices and a wide variety of machined uses.

PETG is certainly strong. In fact, you’d be hard pressed to break it in half. This means that if you need to print an object that that is highly break resistant, you’d be hard pressed to beat rigid.ink PETG filament.

At the same time, rigid.ink PETG is also very flexible, more so than both PLA and ABS. It’s also more malleable. This means that rigid.ink PETG works well as a prototyping material and in end use applications. Its strength also means that it can stand up to any number of post-printing processing techniques, including, sanding, grinding, cutting and machining.

When printing, rigid.ink PETG filament exhibits incredible layer adhesion. The strong bond between the layers of your printed objects means that rigid.ink PETG exhibits very little warping from shrinkage as it cools. This makes rigid.ink PETG ideal for printing larger objects.

rigid.ink PETG is very water resistant. This makes it an excellent choice for outdoor applications. It also offers great chemical resistance, standing up well to both alkaline and acidic environments. Finally, rigid.ink PETG is very impact resistant. This makes it a viable alternative to PMMA and Polycarbonate.

A quick look at the data stats demonstrates the versatility of rigid.ink PETG:

  • It has a specific gravity of 1.27g/cm3, that’s just higher than PLA and about 20% more dense than ABS.
  • It has a weighted strength rating of 55.5 kg/122.36 lbs.
  • Its Rockwell hardness rating of R106 makes it comparable to ABS.
  • However, its tensile strength yield of 53 MPa or 7700 psi, elongation at break of 50% and flexural yield strength of 77 MPa or 11,200 psi, leave ABS in the dust.

rigid.ink PETG comes in a variety of translucent and opaque colours and prints easily, cleanly and with no odour. Your objects will end up with a nice glossy finish. Depending on your extruder, rigid.ink PETG filament has a print temperature of 235C to 245C and works well with a heated bed temperature of about 70C to 80C. As to print surface, rigid.ink PETG is quite forgiving, blue painters tape works well or vinyl-based hairspray.

It’s important to remember that rigid.ink PETG doesn’t need to be forced onto the bed. A slightly larger gap on the Z axis will give the material enough room to lay down properly. Finally, rigid.ink PETG will bond to the previous layer of material ridiculously well. That means for the strongest possible object, leave the fan off. However, if you want to bring out the detail in your object, do use the fan. The rapid cooling will make your object’s details pop.

It’s important to remember that PETG, like a lot of thermoplastic filaments, is hygroscopic. This means that it will absorb moisture directly from the air. This means that you should store your rigid.ink PETG in a cool, dry place in order to maintain its strength and integrity.     Problems

    I have tried to use PETG on various surfaces from ultrabase to blue tape, I have not been able to get any more prints apart from 1 OWL on a log printed on the new glass bed on the cr 10 pro settings 240 and 75, I have used hairspray etc to no avail, I even replaced the creality cr10 pro bed to a glass bed after hours trying to get this to print, settings from 233 to 245, heated bed from 60 to 85, 20mm to 50mm speeds, retraction and no retraction, 0.2 - 0.4mm z offset, recalibrated the system on my cr-10s x 2, flash forge dreamer, flash forge adventurer, cr10 pro, tronxy x5s, tronxy x5 and anycubic mega i3, I simply cannot understand what's going on, Your PLA prints 100% all the time all day long but these 2 spools of PETG just will not lay down. Any guidance before I buy more as I really want to print with this material, I have even followed the nice guides that you supplied and the wall chart flow procedure.

    My new favourite filament!

    After a long time of adjusting temperatures, flow rate, z offset and retraction settings, I've finally found the perfect profile to print PETG and it's now a joy to print. The finish is fantastic, and the colour is bright and vivid. I don't think I'll bother with PLA anymore; I'll be printing most of projects in PETG from now on!

    Once you get settings sorted, this can be great

    At first I struggled with some bed adhesion and so much stringing. This will vary from printer to printer (Ender-3) but with some research, I got there in the end. Really happy with it and already ordered more!
