Description

Say Goodbye to Empty Spools

The Masterspool has arrived.
Refill your spool as many times as you like.
Save the planet.

 Mastering the Masterspool

  1. Download and print your Masterspool. Here’s a file you can use. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2769823.
  2. When you’re ready to fill the spool, choose from our range of lovely, 750g spool-less filament.
  3. Unscrew the spool, load your filament securing the end strand into the notch in the spool and screw back together. It takes seconds (30 to be precise).
  4. Don’t forget to remove the cable ties!

Why isn’t this cheaper than spooled filament?

Since 1kg of filament with a spool costs £32, 750g of filament with no spool should cost less than this, right?

Not quite.

Neatly winding mass amounts of lovely filament is a more fiddly and time-consuming process when there’s no spool to wind it round.

This means that spool-less filament costs more to manufacture.

So, don’t feel fobbed off by the price. We like to play fair.

The Masterspool design is considerate of our environment and we’re a big fan.

Oh, did we mention you’ll also save money on shipping?

Order your Masterspool refill today and look forward to less waste, hassle and guilt.

Please note, this is a 750g net weight spool. This means you'll receive a minimum of 750g of rigid.ink filament, plus minimal packaging (cable ties and vacuum sealed bag). The Masterspool refills do not come packaged inside a rigid.ink box as standard, but if you require a box then add this to your notes at the checkout. Our regular 1KG spools of rigid.ink filament are minimum of 1000g of rigid.ink filament, plus approximately 245g of spool, plus cardboard box.

Orange Master reel PLA

Makes use of empty reels so why pay more for quality material.
Once transferred to an empty reel it was as good as always.

Masterspool PLA Refill

Purchased my first masterspool refill and now printing with it. Fits the MasterSppol nice and tight and prints like any other normal filament on a spool.
Will continue to use the refill in the future.

Excellent PLA filament.

I am new to 3D printing and from the onset I was aware of the false economy of cheap filament. I have now tried several brands, all recommended and all quality filament. I however have settled on rigid which has led to no spaghetti boloplastic and only one warping event for which it still completed the print. I have a Prusa Mk3s and find I am needing quite high settings; base plate 55, and extruded 210 for first layer and 205 for subsequent layers. This is 5 degrees lower than other tried filaments.

Masterspool Grey PLA Refill

Received my first roll of Rigid.Ink MasterSpool PLA about ten days ago, after a minor problem with colour choice, where the website only selected black regardless, I ordered with a note saying I actually wanted grey. Thanks Jess for sorting that out.

People may remember my Facebook post, where I printed out the spool in preparation. I tested it with left over samples while waiting for my order to arrive, so I knew it would hold together.

I opened the usual packaging and had to work out how to fit the coil onto the spool. Not rocket science, but getting the tail to fit into the correct position had me scratching my head for a few minutes, until I realised I needed to cut about 30mm off to make it fit into the hole.

The coil is a tight fit, and it is necessary to push the cable ties along a bit to line up with the slots, but only a bit. Wind on the other half of the spool, snip the cable ties.

At this point, I was scratching my head again, trying to work out how to remove the cable ties. Then I pulled down one of the ends to get a better look and it was obvious, all I needed to do was pull. (I blame it on the pain tablets)

Afraid I was too impatient to get printing again to take pictures, but so far, so good.

Next time, I will know how to do it.

Unfortunately, my machine decided to throw a wobbly at this point and I managed to use the wrong fluid to clean the surface and could not get anything to attach. It has taken over a week to get the surface workable again and getting any results. It still is not quite back to normal, but with care I am getting results out.

Enough of my problems. I know it was the machine at fault and not the filament, because part of the surface had been 'eaten' by the wrong fluid.

Back to the Masterspool review. The filament seems to come of the reel just as you would expect. I had no problems loading it into my machine and feeding it through.

While I have the slight problems with my machine, I have slowed my p...

Great filament, great support team👍

I'm a beginner just setting up a kit 3d printer. I originally sent for a free sample as I wanted to compare against the cheap PLA I was using. It came with setup tips and an invitation to send a photo of my prints to get more help. I tried the sample and found it worked better straight away using suggested settings. Retried with the cheaper PLA and it was nowhere near as good. I've since bought a spool of Rigid Ink and some of their "Masterspool" PLA (comes with no spool, I printed the suggested one off) It worked as well as the spooled filament. I'll be back for more.
Great company to deal with and a super product.
Thanks Rigid Ink "Ninjas".
