  • While other flexible filaments can be tricky to print, producing stringy prints with poor layer adhesion, rigid.ink was developed with this in mind. We’ve created something that prints nicer, and just happens to be incredibly tough and durable.
  • Smooth feeding and printing, our low friction 94A shore hardness TPU filament negates the typical headaches with printing flexibles. Plug in the settings (prints from 210°C) and enjoy our famous ‘set and forget’ reliability.
  • Just how durable? Well, with a massive elongation to break of 500% and unparalleled layer adhesion you can produce practical end-use parts that won’t let you down.
  • With our industry leading tight tolerances, you get super smooth and consistent layer lines, leaving a beautiful finish. And there’s no stringing thanks to our heat stable viscosity formula. With rigid.ink TPU you get 100% printing reliability.
  • Any problems, on anything to do with your order or your rigid.ink prints and you can interrogate our friendly, efficient and knowledgeable technical customer support. We’re here for you. And we won’t let you down, ever.

Please note the following colour name changes (18.07.18):
Fire Red = Flash Red
Light Blue = Bright Blue

The names have changed but the colours have not, so you can continue to order the same vibrant colours you have previously.

Need flexibility along with easy printability? Then you need rigid.ink TPU filament.

TPU (or thermoplastic polyurethane) is a remarkably flexible, remarkably durable 3d printing filament that’s also very easy to use.

Some flexible filaments, like TPE, can be difficult to work with. The relative softness of the material, which gives it the desired flexibility, can also mean that the average extruder will have a hard time handling it. Instead of feeding smoothly into the hot end, the flexibility of these filaments cause them to bend and knot up in the excess spaces in the print head.

rigid.ink TPU solves this problem by being slightly harder than other flexible filaments. It’s Shore Hardness rating of 94A means that the extruder mechanism has fewer problems handling rigid.ink TPU. Material bending is reduced and this means less knotting and less headaches for you.

Even though TPU is a bit more rigid than other flexible filaments, it’s very similar to those filaments when it comes to elasticity and other mechanical properties. This means that rigid.ink TPU can be used to produce a wide variety of objects that need to bend or flex during use. Typically, this includes things like belts, springs, phone cases and vibration dampening parts. rigid.ink TPU also exhibits a high degree of abrasion resistance along with a resistance to oils, greases and a variety of solvents – making it more favorable in industry applications.

Like Ninjaflex and similar TPE filaments, rigid.ink TPU is comprised of non-toxic raw materials. It also has excellent layer to layer adhesion. This results in very durable end-use prints that also exhibit a high level of quality. Users have found that rigid.ink TPU is capable of producing prints as clean and detailed as objects made from PLA or ABS. Finally, the density of Ninjaflex and rigid.ink TPU are nearly identical, with 1.20g/cm3 for NinjaFlex (and similar TPE filaments) and 1.21g/cm3 for rigid.ink TPU. Due to the nature of Flexible filament, the diameter tolerances are +/- 0.05mm compared to rigid filament at +/- 0.03mm.

Flash red TPU

I brought the "flash red" but it took a few months to actually get round to using it. At last, I have got round to trying it out. First of all, these are the settings I used. I have a Hictop i3 clone although quite heavily modified. I have swapped the original hot end for a bowden type and using an E3D lite v6 hot end.

For the Rigid ink TPU I looked on the box and it said the hot end should be from 210c and the bed should be set at 60c. If you do a lot of printing you know how your own set up works so I decided to try printing at 220c for the hot end and 60 on the bed.
I use my own bed adhesive that I developed myself, but this TPU sticks really well I have found. In fact, I tested this out on a clean piece of glass that was cleaned and wiped over with nail varnish remover then allowed to dry and the test print stuck very well and was easy to get off.

I set the speed to 30mm/s with no part cooling and I turned off retraction. This TPU prints beautifully the layers are fused together really well and the outside wall looks neat and very tidy. I love this stuff its so easy to print with the bottom layer is like glass.

I use Octoprint on this particular printer and I made a TPU profile that I use for this filament. This means I have to select it from the list and on one print I was doing I forgot to select the TPU profile and used the default PLA one instead the hot end temp was 210c bed was 50c. The retraction was on at 6mm at 40mm/s and print speed was 40mm/s. Surprisingly it hardly made a difference to the finished object I was really happy because it means there is room for error in the print.

All in all, I think Rigid Ink TPU is one of the best TPUs I have ever used. It is different because it allows for a little human error and still comes out looking great. This allows for repeatability in your printing which makes us happier makers :O)

I will definitely be buying more of this stuff as I have much more testing and some big parts to print off.

Good filament, website colours not representative

I have been using this filament succesfully for several months now. However, the colours displayed on this page are not completely representative of what you will actually get.. Dark blue is actually translucent, which should have been mentioned somewhere. The light blue is in reality less saturated and more towards green. The photos of light green and black filament do match with the actual material. I have not tried the other colours. Hardness is accurate.

I can recommend this filament, but beware that you may not get the exact colour you think you've ordered.

Hi There,

Thank you for taking the time to leave this positive review.

I'm glad you like rigid.ink TPU and I'm sorry if you feel like the colours on the website are not representing the actual colours.

Can you please send me a photo of the Bright Blue, so I can make sure you have received the correct one?

It should be nice and vibrant blue colour, not even close to green.

Regarding the Indigo colour, it is slightly translucent only if printed in one single layer and I apologise if this is not what you were looking for.

I can always organise a replacement for you, if you are not fully satisfied, so please let me know.

All the best
Monica

My first TPU print

I have so far had a great experience with this tpu filament after hearing some bad stories of other filaments and the perils of flexible filament printing. This filament has so far been so easy to use and can only get better from here as I hone my printer settings and my own technique.
A very pleased and repeat customer.

TPU 1.75mm Black

Superb results.
Home built Cartesian using 2040 V Slot, hiwin linear rails, e3d titan aero, running marlin 1.1.8
220 nozzle, 70 bed, 15mm/s.
Can control how hard or soft the part is by varying the infill percentage.
It is a bit expensive, but worth every penny once you see the results

Hi David,

Thanks for sharing your settings with us!

I'm glad you like our TPU and will be looking forward to see some photos of your projects :)
